- It estimates that international migrant population will swell from 214 million in 2010 to over 400 million in 2050
- The impetus for this is the slower growth in employment opportunities in developed world than in developing world
- This calls for putting in place structures to facilitate sustainable international migration
- These structures are
- Clearly defined migration policies
- Mainstreaming of migration into domestic and international policies
- Remittances have surpassed official development assistance for most of poor countries enabling them to take up developmental activities and lift millions out of poverty
- India’s remittances were the highest at over 49 thousand billion dollars
